Trip to Yu Shan

by Sander Tams 4. May 2010 06:30

The past weekend, I went to 玉山 (Y Shan). Highest mountain in Taiwan. It's name means Jade Mountain.

In this post, I'm just going to focus a bit on the bus-trip there, since that accounted for a pretty big part of the trip.

On tour with the rotary club 3

by Sander Tams 22. September 2009 18:05

So after eating breakfast, we finally left the grand resort, but not to go back to Taipei just yet. Instead, we drove on southwards to check out more pplz and partners trying to sell stuff to rich tourists.

On the way, we stopped to take a look at some shop which was earlier some big administrative institution. On the way to the shop, however, we found some taiwanese style banana trees that were quite small and had just as small bananas, so I took some pictures of it with my new knowledge about focusing with a cheap camera.

On tour with the rotary club 2

by Sander Tams 21. September 2009 19:06

So today I will be continuing from yesterday.

This is when the real bragging will come, so here you are: The luxurious resort I stayed at, although just for one night:

This is the entrance to the hotel we stayed at. I looked at some of the papers I got about the trip. They were all in chinese, so I wouldn't know much from them, but I think the rooms there were a little expensive, even for danish standards.

The more impressive thing about this place is the giant leisure area they have. Really, just look at it. Unfortunately for me, I had such a good nights sleep that I didn't have time to go for a walk in the morning, so I didn't get to see too much of it. (There's a lot more than what you can just see from here.)

This big house was used for dinner by the whole rotary crew, which was actually people from both Banciao Odense and their sister-club plus a lot of wifes, relatives and friends of the members from the two clubs.

Well, not just dinner, actually. Rather a feast with a lot of wine and whisky and accompanying drunk taiwanese people running around and giving out toasts to everyone. And then, of course, karaoke.

Don't worry. It takes more than two bottoms-ups challenges to make me even just tipsy. Lol. Oh, and of course the video is one I shot myself this time.

The next day, we had a very nice breakfast in the fine resort.

Here, I found another cake, that showed up to actually be sweet.

But oh... So late it becomes again. This blogging is really hard. I'll have to finish it tomorrow I think. By then, I probably know a little more about karaoke too.

Ming tien chien. See you tomorrow.

On tour with the rotary club

by Sander Tams 20. September 2009 16:47

I just spended my whole weekend driving around with the rotary crew all of a sudden. An unforgettable experience I must say. Let me explain to you why.

First of all, Taiwanese people are crazy about karaoke. So when I got onto the tourbus and took my seat, I suddently found out that the vehicle was a driving karaoke bar. Unfortunately for me, my seat was just on top of the subwoofer.

This was not the only television, as you can see on the follow picture, the whole bus was pretty well equipped:

There were also a few very old english songs. I tried to sing Last Christmas with Joni, but the idiots who made the music for the karaoke-track on that one couldn't hold the rythm so we failed pretty bad. Just afterwards, we took another song, which is far superior: Sting and the Police with Every Breath You Take, and the whole bus applauded noisily when it was done. I think I did so-so, but of course that doesn't matter when it's the first time the people hear the famous white-haired european sing karaoke.

Okay, a lot of pictures are going to be in this post, so prevent it from being too spammy, I'm going to break it up here. Click into it to read on, really! More...
